Rock Sugar
Rock Sugar was once a modest residential space, given new life by our team as it transformed into a Thai restaurant in South Yarra’s competitive dining scene.
Inspired by the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, tropical palm trees of Phi Phi Island and the playful energy of a Full Moon Party, our client wanted to bring this experience back home with him. Literally.
The owner grew up in the heritage-listed building Rock Sugar now occupies. In 2016, some 30 years later, he moved upstairs and we turned his old bedroom into the restaurant’s main dining area to seat 80. Outside, the dining deck occupies a space that was once the former home’s old veggie patch.
Pink neon lights glow brightly against the original ghosted brick walls to form a non-traditional space that acts as the perfect backdrop for non-traditional thai.
